Try practicing some of these common Childcare Program Administrator’s job interview questions:

1.    Why do you want to work for our child care center?

How to answer:  Your interviewer might ask this question to find out how much you know about the facility you’re applying for. When you answer, refer to the center’s values or mission statement to show that you are familiar with their specific approach. This can help show you are a good fit for their facility.

Answer:  “I am excited to serve your child care center as a director because your approach to whole-child care matches my child care philosophy perfectly. I’m eager for the opportunity to expand my skills and support child care providers, families, and, children in a way that so closely aligns with my personal and professional values.”

2.    What’s your favorite part of caring for children?

How to answer:   Your interviewer will ask this question to determine how much you enjoy working with children, which is an important part of your role even in a leadership position. Try to answer honestly and share your genuine enjoyment of the job.

Answer:  “My favorite part of caring for children is seeing them learn and grow each day. Whether they are learning to walk or learning to read, I am proud of every child who attends our facility. I visit each room in the child care facility and spend time with the kids to remember the biggest reasons I do the work I do.”

3.    How do you handle changes in the workplace?

How to answer:  A hiring manager might ask this question to determine your comfort level in a sometimes fast-paced environment like childcare, and your overall professional flexibility. Try to convey a sense of confidence and effective decision-making skills.

Answer:   “I adapt easily to change, which is important when you work in a dynamic field like child care. I find it very important to accommodate workplace changes while ensuring children still experience consistency. For example, last year our lease terms changed and so we had to move our facility to a new building. I kept the facility set up similarly so the children could transition seamlessly into the new environment, which they successfully did.”

Not every question you will encounter when interviewing for a Childcare Program Administrator’s position will be related to early childhood development supportive job. But those are the common topics interviewer can ask for selecting a qualified candidate.
