Answer:  “I find that routinely provides an opportunity to develop my skills and perfect my methods. I take patient safety very seriously, so making sure that I am constantly engaged regardless of the repetitive nature of the job is a priority of mine. To do this, I do my best to treat each patient as if they are my first. I try to prepare for the unexpected even in the most ordinary of procedures to stay as alert and focused as possible.”


2. What are the traits of a good phlebotomist?


How to answer:   Hiring managers likely ask this type of question to measure how well you can recognize the skills and traits necessary to succeed in this field. Answer:  “I think the three most important traits of a good phlebotomist are patience, an advanced understanding of physiology, and critical thinking skills. As a phlebotomist, patience and empathy can help you more effectively communicate with patients who feel scared, ill,l or otherwise upset. An advanced understanding of physiology is essential to providing safe and effective health care. Finally, critical thinking skills are necessary for making important decisions while under the pressure of time constraints and emotional stress.”



3. How would you deal with an angry patient?


How to answer:  Employers may ask you this question to determine your level of conflict resolution skills. When answering this question, it’s important to incorporate other skills that help you solve conflicts with patients.


Answer:   “I find that active listening is the key to diffusing a tense situation. I try my best to patiently listen to upset patients to better understand their needs. Often, when patients feel heard and understood, they being to calm down and behave more rationally.”
